Slotland Casino Profile
Slotland.com is one of the oldest and most popular casinos on the
internet. Players tend to love Slotland or hate it. I've attempted to
make this profile of this particular online casino as complete as
possible.

Slotland's Casino Game Software
Slotland's software (or lack thereof) is a reason to love Slotland
and a reason to hate them at the same time.
Slotland fans enjoy the unique slot games available at the
property. No matter whether you love Slotland.com or hate it, you
couldn't possibly contend that their casino games are somehow run of the
mill or similar to any other slot machine games online.
Haters of Slotland.com complain that since there is no sound, much of
the fun and excitement of playing the slot machine games is lost. There
has also been some controversy regarding their slot games that simulate
card games like blackjack and video poker. (More on that below.)
WebTV and Mac Compatible Casino Games
Fans of the casino love the software because unlike almost all other
casinos, their software is compatible with almost any kind of computer
or web-surfing device, including Mac computers and WebTV/MSNTV
interfaces with the web. Slotland is a no-download casino, but unlike
most other no-download casinos, java and/or flash are not required to
play there.
Cell Phone Slot Machine Games
Slotland not only offers no-download html-based slot machine games
that are Mac and WebTV compatible, but they also now offer slot machine
games (Lucky Stars) you can play on your cell phone.
Slotland Games
This is a list and a brief description of the games available at
Slotland:
- Magic (and Halloween Magic, which is the same game
but with Halloween images.) - A 5 reel slot game with a minimum
$0.50 bet and a maximum $10 bet.
- Golden8 - A big 3 reel slot machine with 8 paylines.
Golden 8 has a minimum $0.50 bet and a maximum $12.00 bet.
- HeavyMetal - Heavy Metal is another 3 reel slot machine.
Minimum bet of $0.50 and a maximum bet of $8.
- SilverKiss - Silver Kiss is an adult slot machine game with nude
pictures. Minimum $0.25 bet and a maximum $2 bet.
- Treasure Box - A minimum bet of $0.50 and a maximum bet
of $8. This game allows players to "hold" certain paylines and spin
the other reels to increase their chances of maximizing their
payback.
- Booster - The Booster slot machine game is a biggy. The
minimum bet is $0.50 and the maximum bet is $50. The "Boost" symbol
is wild and allows you to increase your bet by a factor of 10.
- Space Jack - A unique, 3 handed "slot machine" version of
blackjack. Gameplay is similar to multihand video poker; you're
dealt 3 blackjack hands, but if you hit one hand, you hit all 3
hands. Same if you stand. But a blackjack pays 3 to 1 instead of the
usual blackjack payout, and this payout is even if the dealer has a
blackjack too. Minimum bet is $1 and maximum bet is $60.
- Jacks or Better - A "slot machine" version of jacks or
better video poker. Minimum bet of $0.50 and maximum bet $10.
- Striking 7's - A "slot machine" version of deuces wild
video poker, only sevens are wild instead of deuces. Minimum bet is
$0.50 and maximum bet is $10.
- Santa Sleigh - A multi hand (3 hands) video poker slot game.
There are 2 jokers in the deck which act as wild cards, and the game
plays similarly to Jacks or Better, only with wild cards.
- Wildheart - Another video poker type game, Wild Heart is
based on Jokers Wild. Minimum bet is $0.25 and maximum bet is $15.
- FreeSlot - This game isn't actually a part of Slotland,
but I'm including it because it's their "free slots tournament"
game. You can read more about it on the
FreeSlot page. (There is no money wagered on FreeSlot, hence the
name, but $100 each week is given away to the highest score.)
- Lucky Stars - The new slot machine game for mobile
phones. It's got 5 paylines and the minimum bet is $0.50. The
maximum bet is $40.
Please note that all of Slotland's games are slot machine games that
are tied into their progressive jackpot. This includes the card games,
which are not based on the behavior of a 52 card deck, but are instead
programmed to provide a certain payback percentage, just like any other
slot machine game.
Slotland's Progressive Jackpot
All of Slotland's games tie into one progressive jackpot. According
to Slot Charts (and at the time of this writing), the jackpot gets hit
on average every 43 days and averages $86,217 when it hits. The largest
jackpot ever paid out by Slotland, at the time of this writing, was
$163,150, on March 12, 2006.
Slotland's Payback Percentage
Slotland boasts a 98%+ payback percentage. Some people on forums
theorize that they include their deposit bonuses in this calculation and
that the true payback on the machine is significantly less, but I've
never seen any proof of this.

Slotland Jacks or Better Controversy - Card Games or Slot Games
One controversial issue that has been a bit of a thorn in Slotland's
side is the way their video poker games work. Video poker games, by
definition, replicate the action of a 52 card deck of playing cards.
This makes a perfect strategy possible, and it also makes the
calculation of the payback percentage of a video poker game possible.
Slotland's version of Jacks or Better though, is a slot machine game,
NOT a video poker game. The payback percentage for the game is
programmed to pay back at a certain amount, and it is NOT determined by
the action of a 52 card deck of cards. Slotland.com recently changed
their description of the game on their site to acknowledge this
difference, in a response to a thread on a popular casino gamblers'
forum. This change did little to mollify Slotland's critics.
Michael Shackleford, the "Wizard of Odds", wrote in his "Ask the
Wizard" section, "I just don't trust any casino that would rig a card
game, even if they admit it in the fine print."
Shackleford was talking about Space Jack, Slotland's version of
blackjack, but the same logic would apply to a video poker game, since
it's essentially a card game also, in that it normally has fixed odds
based on a simulated 52 card deck.
Slotland Signup Bonus & Wagering Requirements
Slotland's signup bonus and wagering requirements are some of the
best in the industry, and their payouts are also quick and easy. When
you deposit $100 on your first deposit there, you get a $100 bonus. To
cash this bonus out, you must wager the entire deposit plus bonus. In an
age where most casinos require at least 15 times the deposit+bonus in
wagering requirements, this type of signup bonus is almost completely
unheard of.
Slotland's Affiliate Program
The affiliate program for Slotland is also unique. Rather than pay a
flat dollar amount per player that is sent over, or paying a percentage
of losses, like almost all other online casinos do, Slotland.com pays a
percentage of the referred players' deposits. Some webmasters love this
program; others hate it.
All in all Slotland is probably one of the more enjoyable places I've
played slots at online. I like the unique games there, and I don't mind
the lack of sound so much. I'm usually listening to music in my computer
room anyway, even when I'm playing slot machine games.
