Atlantic City Sees Rise in Revenue

With neighboring states bringing in slot machines, Atlantic City had seen a drop in their slot machine revenue, but a small rise in their table revenue. However, three times is the charm for the seaside city, for after two consecutive months of losing, they had a slight increase in March.

Casinos in the city reported that they were up 1.3% over the same time last year, with slot machines showing still not increasing, but decreasing at a slower rate. The slot machines brought in $111,000 which was down by less money than they have been in previous months. It averaged out to a little over $10,000 per casino.

Casino analysts say that the percentage of increase may not be a lot, but it is showing that Atlantic City is still holding its own against the competition. Many think it has a lot to do with the fact that in neighboring states there are slot machines, but Atlantic City has more than that. They have slot machines as well as table games – plus you can add to that the fact that they are a resort destination with beach, boardwalk, hotels, etc. – basically a lot more to do.

Some say that the recent decreases in revenue don’t just have to do with slot machines in other states. Some say that it has a lot to do with the fact that there are so many restrictions on smoking now at the casinos and in the state. They say that at a time when they should be focusing on increasing slot machine revenues, too many people are worried about cleaner air. Experts think the state should have tried to solve one problem at a time, instead of inundating the state and the area with too many problems at once.
