Doyle Wants Track to WaitWith Jefferson County setting their election date for June 9th, the Charles Town Races and Slots is gearing up for the special vote to see if their residents will allow them to have table games. All of the tracks have set their voting dates as the same, as they wanted to pick a day that people were off. They chose Saturday because most people don’t work; and they chose June because most of them would not be on vacation yet. However, one person has a problem with the date of the vote. Delegate John Doyle wants the Jefferson County track to hold off on the vote as he says that the residents will not have had enough time to weigh the pros and cons of having the vote. He says that residents need to learn the issues, and those that oppose the games should have more time to let their voices be heard. Doyle wants the tracks to participate in debates across the five voting districts to inform voters of the election. However, it is important to note that Doyle does not want the table games to be approved. He voted for them in the legislature, but thinks that Jefferson County is getting the short end of the stick and will not support the vote. He says that not only is the county getting enough of the revenue, but the development plan is way out of whack for the historic tourism industry that they support. He says the casino is too “glitzy” for the area. The County Commissioners thanked Doyle for his input but said that it was too late to change the date.
