Gambling Awareness ProgramHudson Valley Community College is offering “Know the Score,” a traveling gambling awareness program that has been a hit at the other locations it has already been to. The program will not only give you information about gambling and the various myths that follow it, but it will also give you an insight to the gambling addict and let you know if you might be one of them. Case in point: many people think that when they are playing a slot machine that since they have been playing it awhile it will be due to hit. However, since random number generators or RNGs are in every slot machine, it makes each play completely separate from the others, so there is no way to know when it will hit. These and other questions will be answered in the class, as well as showing the various signs of addiction and places to get help for those that realize they may have a problem. The program will run Monday through Thursday from 11 am to 2 pm, and they expect a fairly large turnout. Other schools that have hosted the program, such as Skidmore College, don’t think gambling is a huge issue, but with the increase of online slot machines and poker playing, they felt it was good to offer the program to possibly help those who need it most.
