Gaming Board Changing Rules

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is changing the rules when it comes to slot machine licenses. They are trying to make the slot machine licenses more attractive, and more profitable for the resorts who may be seeking a license. There are two resort licenses to be issued, and the board has agreed to be more flexible in the way they handle them.

They are reopening the process of applying for one of the slot machine resort licenses, and the new date of commencement for the process is April 20^th. Those that are interested in a slot machine license will have until June 20^th to apply, and if approved they will be able to put in 500 slot machines – and it will cost them only $5 million.

In order to qualify as a viable resort, they have to have at least 275 guest rooms, but time shares that are rented out will count toward that count. They must also have various amenities that they can offer their guests, and there must be some sort of division between the rooms and the casino so that those staying there will not have access to the gaming floor whenever they want. Although, those that have year memberships to the resorts, will have year round access to the casino as part of their resort membership.

The resort’s mandatory fees that people had to pay have been reduced as well – instead of customers having to spend at least $25 before they could get access to the casino, now they only have to spend $10. This will give them access to the casino one time within a 72 hour period to go play the slot machines.
