WV will Influence Maryland’s Slot Machines

With West Virginia having slot machines already, it is likely that it will have an influence on whether or not slot machines will be allowed in Maryland. Now, for some years slot machines have been played across state lines, but now that West Virginia is looking to add table games, it is a whole other story.

The Maryland General Assembly was certainly not the group that anyone thought would even consider adding slot machines to the state, however, West Virginia is making it awfully tough for the state to continue saying no. WV keeps showing that not only are they bringing in millions in revenue from the slot machines, and some of that is from Maryland residents, but that now they are going to bring in even more from their table games.

The General Assembly continues to speak of slot machines as if they were the devil, but somehow it is starting to have a hollow ring to it. They say that if slot machines are allowed, next thing you know they will have table games, and full fledged casinos.

IT seems that it is more than likely that at some point slot machines will be legalized, however, the General Assembly is probably right. If you look at West Virginia it is more than apparent that they have no problem continuing to expand gambling in the state. West Virginia will be more than happy for Maryland to continue to keep slot machines out of their state - that means more money for them. However, it also means less money for Maryland.

The governor has not ruled out slot machines, but with the horse racing industry suffering as it is, it seems more than likely that at some point the race tracks will get slot machines. Whether or not table games will follow shortly thereafter is hard to say.
