No More Slot MachinesThe “No More Slots” group is attempting to keep the Chumash Tribe from adding any more slot machines. The group feels that the tribe already has enough slot machines and wants to see a limit put on the number that they are allowed to add. Jennifer Sorenson of the “No More Slots” group said that they were only looking out for the best interests of the community. She said that they do not want to close the casino, or get rid of it in any way. They simply feel that the casino has enough slot machines now, and to expand the number is simply not necessary or good for the community. The group gathered to get petition signatures in front of the Solvang Veterans Hall Tuesday night, and if they get enough signatures they could keep the tribe from adding more slot machines to their Chumash Casino. The group says that the slot machines might add more revenue to the tribe’s coffers, but it will come at the expense of the community. They say that by adding more slot machines they are dooming the community to more traffic and crime, as well as bringing down the value of their homes. They say that they can peacefully co-exist with the tribe if the tribe realizes that their attempts to add more slot machines will be harmful to the community around them.
