Pompano Beach Slot Machines Open

Broward County is celebrating the opening of the Isle Beach Casino in Pompano Beach, making it the third casino open in the county. Mardi Gras Racetrack and Gaming Center and Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino both located in Hallandale Beach have already opened their doors and have their slot machines running.

Pompano Beach has opened with 1,500 slot machines after failing its first inspection at the beginning of April. However, this is quite common as the other two casinos failed their first inspections as well. All three mainly failed for their security measures, but once they corrected them they were ready to open.

The casino cost $170 million and is 157,000 sq ft. It has the most slot machines allowed by current law, although Broward County is trying to increase that amount. They have some competition from the other casinos as well as the Seminole Indians’ casinos – but that competition is not fully functional just yet. The tribe is still only allowed to run Class II machines and not the Class III slot machines that the pari-mutuels are currently allowed. That will change however once an agreement is made between the Indians and the government.

They also know that statistically speaking there are more residents that want to play the slot machines than there are slot machines. They know that their senior citizen clientele are their core group, but are taking steps to bring in a younger crowd as well with bars and restaurants on the premises.
