Video Slot Machine RaidThe Stark County Sheriff is kicking butt and taking names, oh yeah, and seizing slot machines while he is at it. The sheriff’s office raided five video slot game rooms in Jackson and Plain Township late Thursday evening. It was a joint effort between the sheriff’s department and the local police. They seized a total of 145 slot machines, more than $30,000 in cash, and several other gambling related items were confiscated during the raids. They say they have been investigating several locations for six months, and finally had enough evidence to take them over. They raided The Oasis at 727 Fulton Road, Bonus Land at 7997 Hills & Dales Road, and Skill Game Arcade at 4611 Whipple Avenue, all of Jackson Township. In Plaines Township they raided Blazin 777 at 2361 Columbus Road and Skillz-Test ur Skillz at 2729 Fulton Road. Sheriff Tim Swanson said that they could not have pulled of such a large raid without the help of the police department. Swanson also said that the six month investigation determined that the video slot machines were in fact gambling devices and therefore against Ohio state law. They have not made any arrests yet in conjunction with the raids.
