Calgary Facing Large Addiction ProblemAlberta gamblers have an addiction with slot machines. This is a fact based on a recent survey. However, they also bring in $2.3 billion to the country, so this makes it difficult to make it illegal. The government and charities are happy that they are getting billions of dollars in revenue each year, but this money does come at a price. The price of slot machine and gambling addiction is entirely too high a price to pay say addiction experts. You end up with divorce, depression, bankruptcy and yes, even suicide. Some want to know if this is worth the money they are getting. Now that the the Tsuu T'ina Nation Casino opened in December – Calgary officially has the third most casinos per capita in North America – coming behind only Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Gambling addiction centers say that the slot machines are the most addictive and if they could get those removed they would lose a lot of their addicts, but they would also lose revenue. They would like to see the temptation removed from those that have an addiction by limiting the slot machines to the casinos – and keeping them out of bars, restaurants, etc. They say that they are not looking to take slot machines away from everyone, just keep it out of the faces of those that cannot say no.
