No More Slot Machines

According to Justice Minister Brian Lenihan, the government has been advised to get rid of all slot machines. Lenihan says that they have been warned that bringing in computerized slot machines to their bookmakers would be a huge mistake and would only lead to addiction.

The Casino Regulation Committee has written a report last year that was unpublished, but condemns the use of slot machines in the country. They say that bringing in the “fixed odds betting terminals” would be a mistake for the country and that they recommend they do not allow them to be brought in.

Lenihan says that they have already been introduced in the UK, and “they have resulted in a grave increase in gambling addiction.” He is against the legalization of these slot machines for this very reason.

Lenihan is planning on releasing the report, stressing that the government has not yet commented on the findings in said report.
