City Councilors Vote in Slot Machines

In a shocking turn of events, city councilors voted to allow slot machines at the Lucky Dollar Bingo Palace. With the history that the city has had with slot machines, there are many who thought that they would not pass a vote – but they were wrong.

Similar measures have been voted down in the past, but this time the laws had been changed to give the slot machines a better chance at passing. They had voted 4-3 to remove Section 4.20 of bylaw 1431-1995 that made slot machines illegal in the city. It was originally passed ten years ago.

Councilors chose to approve the slot machines 4-3, with the tie breaking vote coming from none other than Councilor Carol Leclerc. Leclerc has been known for her opposition to slot machines in the past, so it was surprising to see that she would allow them at this juncture. She has twice voted against them, so one would wonder what made her change her mind.

She was joined by Marilyn Davies, Brian Downie and Dave Pernarowski in voting for the slot machines, while Lynne Christiansen and Brad Pollard, as well as Mayor Jack Talstra voted against them. The city will receive 10% of the income from the slot machines.
