IGT Still Doing Well

The slot machine company International Game Technology is doing rather well for itself. It may appear that they are simply working and trudging along, but the slot machine manufacturer has worked hard to get where they are and are going to see if it is possible to stay there. They have had their share of problems over the past year regarding the money that was not coming in where it would have before. Instead of trading in slot machines, many casinos decided to keep them longer in order to save some money. This hurt the entire slot machine industry, as the turn over that they count on was just not there. So they had to make due and see what they could do in order to change things.

For IGT that meant that they had to restructure their organization, and that included shutting down their Japan plant. It was only after making these tough choices that they discovered that they had made a profit this year – making them one a few companies that did. They had a seven percent increase in income and a five percent jump in quarterly shares. They had fees and expenses that came from the closing and the changes that they made, to the tune of $18 million – otherwise things may have looked even better for them.

They could have made even more money if they hadn’t done the things that they did to keep their doors open, or they might have ended up losing even more than they did.
