One More Loss for
Schwarzenegger
The
Pauma Band of Mission Indians is just the latest group to win a
court case against California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
when it comes to slot machines and gambling. It would appear
that he cannot seem to get the ground underneath him that he
needs to crack down on these tribes in his state. The latest one
consists of the Pauma Tribe getting to keep their money instead
of paying it out to the state. The judge has put a hold on their $7.75 million payments to the state that they have been responsible for until a final decision has been agreed upon by the lawsuit that has been filed against the governor. Needless to say that the tribe is thrilled with the ruling as this now makes it more possible for them to raise the money that they need to have a full blown gambling resort. The suit says that the governor misled them when they signed their compact and the state says that they negotiated in good faith. The tribe says that they were led to believe that if they did not pay the state money that they would not be able to have their slot machines. They said that they wanted more slot machines and the state made it seem as though that was an impossibility without a million dollar payout. The state says that they negotiated a fair deal and they are sure that the courts will eventually see that and the compact will be upheld.
