So Much for Promises

There are many that are concerned with the level of slot machine gambling in British Columbia. They think that there should be less of it and that the fact that the government seems to continue adding to it only makes it worse. They are upset because the Liberal Party had agreed that they needed to stop the expansion of gambling, which is why many people voted them in. However, now it appears as though this campaign promise will not come to fruition.

The Liberal Party has just agreed to bring in more slot machines which only serve to expand gambling even more. They say that instead of curbing it like they said that they would, they are increasing the amount of revenue that they are bringing in. They argue that the amount of revenue that has come in since they took office has increased to $1.34 billion, which is up from $489 million. This is a huge increase, and a huge tax on the country’s citizens – which is how they see it.

Now they have announced that they are allowing the Edgewater Casino to move to a larger building, and double the number of slot machines that they have to offer their patrons. They say that once the casino is up and running they could have as many as 1,500 slot machines for their players to choose from. They say that they are concerned that this new casino is entirely too large and that there was nothing wrong with the old one. They feel absolutely betrayed by them.
