Sweepstakes Confused for Gambling

In Florida the law was not very clear as to what constitutes slot machine gambling and what does not. So, lawmakers are working to correct that so that there is more of a clarity there and they can crack down on those that are not following the letter of the law, and make money off of those that are. For some of these establishments, they have been harassed or closed down by police for offering slot machine gambling, when they argue that they are not doing that, and that the law covers them.

Authorities say that many of these internet café type places are offering online slot machine gambling and that they need to be stopped. They argue that there is no way that these places did not realize that they were offering illegal slot machines, and that they need to be cracked down on so that there is more of the regulatory charges that there should be.

But the state attorney is now dropping charges to some of those slot machine cafés that were operating and they say that they are willing to fine them instead of closing them down. They say that they are looking to take care of clarifying the law first and then cracking down on those that are not following it. For now, some of them are simply looking at fines for misrepresenting what they really offer, which is online slot machine gambling – disguised as sweepstakes. They say that they are all aware that this is not really what it is, and they need to take steps to clarify it and make it legal where it should be and illegal where it should not be.
