British Columbia Loses SupportThe casinos have never had a better time in British Columbia, as their revenues continue to climb every month. However, the public feels that there is too much gambling in the country, and most of that is due to the inundation of media regarding the gambling. Their support numbers have dropped seven percent this year, which makes it hard for the British Columbia Lottery Corporation to meet their goals. Their annual report stated that because of the increased media coverage, through both the media and the casino’s own advertising, the public has gotten the idea that there is too much gambling, and that drives down their numbers. "These two factors correspond to an increase in public perception that there is too much gaming in British Columbia and too many casinos," it says. The casinos brought in more than $1 billion this past year, the first time they have ever had that kind of income from the casinos. Slot machines alone brought in $763 million of it, with table games coming in at $322 million. The Great Canadian Casinos’ River Rock Casino in Richmond had the largest amount coming in, at $215 million – and the tables actually beat out the slots for the lead.
