FDLE Sets Up ShopThe Florida Department of Law Enforcement has created a Gaming Enforcement Team to try and help with the slot machine regulations. They have opened their first office in Hallandale Beach - at the Gulfstream Park. In October they will get their first 500 slot machines to regulate and they have 39 employees waiting to be placed at the offices that will be opening soon. They anticipate having offices at each of the four pari-mutuals, and will be responsible for all of the regulation of the machines. They will be running background checks on anyone who has anything to do with the machines, from the top owners to the people cleaning the floors around the slot machines. “We’ve learned from other jurisdictions that organized crime and people who shouldn’t be in the gaming industry attempt to be a part of it,” said FDLE Assistant Special Agent in Charge Michael Mann. The group is determined that anyone with a criminal background will not have access to what will be a great temptation. Depending on those background checks is the casinos license, for if they don’t check out, the Department of Business and Professional regulation will deny their slot machine or dealing license. If the slot machines pan out the way the authorities expect them to, the schools will be the real winners. The state is expecting $209 million to be earmarked for the state’s school system, which could really use it. Back to August Index - Slot Machines Fan
