Gambling DefinitionsThere are two important types of gambling: Class II Gambling: Class II Gambling involves games of chance, with paper or electronic means that must be based on bingo or pull-tabs. Class III Gambling: Pretty much everything else – slot machines, roulette, table gambling like poker, etc. The state must give permission for this type of gambling to exist. The most important thing to remember about gambling is that all states must approve it. If you are on an Indian reservation, then there are rules that apply to you that do not apply to other areas - such as the Class III Gambling Rule. Indian tribes are allowed to have Class III Gambling on their reservations, and the state and the government have no right to interfere with them in any way. The tribe can set up a compact with the state that will regulate it, but only in the loosest sense of the word. If they want slot machines, they can have them.
