Guam Greyhound Makes BallotProponents of gambling at Guam Greyhound Race Track will be celebrating tonight as the Guam Election Commission announced that they had reached their goal of 4,959 signatures needed to get the slot machine initiative on the November ballot. In fact, they went over the number of signatures that they needed. The slot machine initiative will now be in front of the voters on Election Day, and it will be up to them to decide whether or not to allow it. They are confident that the measure will pass and that the race track will have the exclusive rights to slot machines. Opponents have been fighting the measure as they did not want slot machine gambling approved. They really didn’t want it approved where it is going to be if it passes, it is in an area with three schools and a church – and the group doesn’t find that safe. The commissioners stated their job is simply to acknowledge whether or not they had the number of signatures needed to get on the ballot, not to debate the details of the ballot itself. Opponents have vowed not to give up, and with Election Day just a couple of months away they have stepped up their campaign to make sure that the slot machine initiative is not passed in November. They believe it is the worst thing Guam could do. Back to August Index - Slot Machines Fan |
