Illegal Gambling in Decatur

Illegal slot machines abound these days in Decatur, and the government is having no more of it. The slot machines, also known as video readers or computers – are the same no matter what you call them, and they are illegal. The legislature is working to clear up any ambiguity in the law, as the Indian casinos have slot machines already. The race tracks have video machines as well, which really does make Alabama a state that allows slot machine gambling.

The main problem is that those machines are regulated, and there is a portion of the proceeds going to the state to help with things like education. These new machines that have been popping up everywhere are not regulated, and thus the income that is generated from the slots only goes into the owners’ pockets. The city of Decatur has finally had enough however, and has issued a statement through the City Prosecutor that the slot machine owners have 30 days to cease and desist all gambling operations. Those that do not comply will find themselves getting ticketed.

Many feel that the legislature should go back to the drawing board, and if not clean up the law all together then give Alabamians the opportunity to vote again, for many of them would be willing to vote in a lottery for education. They might as well, for those that wish to gamble will just go over the state line to Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, etc. where they can play the legal slot machines. Either that or they just stay home and do it illegally.
