Island View Casino Opening

The first phase of the Island View Casino opens next month, on the place where the old Oasis Hotel used to stand. Ever since Hurricane Katrina came through this area, there has been no gambling as all the casinos were badly damaged. The Harrah’s that was across the street from where the new Island View Casino is going to be, is now gone. It had a large hotel and casino that was ripped apart by the storm. Its hotel was destroyed, and the barge that it had its slot machines on was thrown onto the highway destroying it as well. The old Oasis Hotel was flooded by the storm. The Copa Casino group bought the property and decided it was worth it to rebuild.

Not that it looks anything like it did – they have gutted it and made it look like a completely different place. The original hotel lobby is now going to be filled with slot machines, and they are adding in a buffet. In fact, the new owners state that the renovations are going to cost them more than the original property cost to build. "We're going to be the only casino, you walk in the front and it's just like Vegas, the casino is right here," Carter said.

The new casino is going to expand the place and make it a slot machine and gambling paradise. The best part, after all of this – for a while at least – they are the only casino in Gulfport. You can’t beat those odds.
