Could Matamoras, Mexico, be the next Las Vegas? It depends on who you ask. James Vann, a Harlingen businessman, has set his sites on Mexico to be the next gambling Mecca. He wants to eventually have six slot machine and gambling casinos no the Mexican side of the Rio Grande. He knows it will be a huge undertaking, and is excited and looking forward to the challenge.

He has several business partners who are looking to expand with him. They are on the US side and the Mexican side of the border, and they can’t wait to open their second slot machine casino on Wednesday. From there the slots just get crazy – as the plan is to have another one up and running by September. Viva Las Vegas Casino opens this week in Matamoras, with the first and the next one in Nuevo Progreso.

"A casino in Matamoros translates to dollar signs for Mexican business owners. It also could pave the way for a casino with table gambling that could earn even more for the city, according to the president of the chamber of commerce there…" The casinos will be huge with over 100 slot machines and betting that only takes US Dollars.
