PA Lottery Sales All Time HighGovernor Rendell of Pennsylvania announced that Lottery sales have reached an all time high of $3.07 billion for the 2005-06 fiscal year. With a $400 million surplus, the state is riding high on the excess money. It has already been earmarked for various programs, with half of it going to property-tax and rent-rebate programs for the elderly. With lottery officials trying their hardest over the past few years to increase the number of players of the lottery, it seems that all of their hard work has finally paid off. The games already help out many of their senior citizen programs, including prescription drug assistance and reduced and free fare public transportation. With the surplus being what it was, they now envision being able to assist with paying for long-term nursing care as well. With the passing of the bill to legalize slot machine gambling as well, the slots revenue is expected to assist with the rebate expansion as well. State officials believe that the newfound revenue will hold, although they do not expect to see another large increase like the one they did this year. Back to August Index - Slot Machines Fan |
