Point in Biloxi Now Casino Owned

With the destruction that Hurricane Katrina brought to Biloxi, Mississippi, it also brought a new kind of business – casinos. Not that there weren’t some before, but ever since the hurricane came through and destroyed what was there, the casinos are buying up all the land they can all over the place and building more casinos.

Harrah’s Entertainment will reopen the Grand Casino Biloxi this week, with more than 800 slot machines and 28 table games. However, that just isn’t big enough, considering the IP, the Isle of Capri, and Boomtown are all larger casinos with more slot machines. Now that the casinos are allowed to come ashore, Harrah’s says they are going to be building an even larger casino – with more tables and slot machines than the other ones.

Anthony Sanfilippo is president of Harrah’s operations, and wants people to know that this is just the beginning for them. "I couldn't be more excited about the Grand opening up on Thursday," he said. "I think people are going to find it a terrific casino. It looks and feels as if it was built from the ground up to accommodate the casino and the restaurants we have put in place. It's either new construction or remodeled construction at the facility. We have brought back 1,500 associates to work, with 95 percent of them returning Grand employees from the Mississippi Coast."

They are just one group; everyone is getting in on the slot machine business in Biloxi. Parcels of land are being bought up all over the place, and you can expect to see many more casinos in the future.
