Seneca Gaming Building SmallerThe Buffalo News reports that the Seneca Nation of Indians Tribal Council has decided to build a smaller more temporary casino across the street from where they were originally planning on building. The announcement comes after talks had fallen through with the city’s mayor, and the land on Fulton Street that they had originally wanted to buy was not available soon enough for them. The Brown administration is refusing to sell the plot of land, and left the Seneca’s without a place to start building. The Tribal Council has decided to build a smaller 5,000 sq ft casino instead, with 100 slot machines. They have a deadline through a compact they signed with governor Pataki that states they must have a casino operating by December 7, 2007. By building this smaller, less expansive casino, they will be able to meet that deadline. The Seneca’s do not think that without building this smaller structure that they will be able to meet the deadline put forth by the governor. Mayor Brown said, “While I look forward to seeing the details of the Seneca’s plans, at this point I wish to make clear that the city of Buffalo looks forward to a long-term relationship of mutual respect with the Seneca Nation of Indians.
