Slot Machines Keep Greyhounds RunningThe Greyhound racetracks in Florida have been failing for quite some time. Therefore, a group of racetrack owners decided it made sense for them to bring in slot machines into the tracks, as it would bring in more business. The voters approved it when it came up for a vote, but the Humane Society of the United States and another greyhound protection organization – GREY2K USA, are fighting the amendment on the grounds that it was filed illegally. They went to the courts claiming that the proponents of the slot machines went about getting signatures for the petitions illegally. They claim that thousands of them were forged, and some of them were the signatures of dead people. If this turns out to be true, then the court has ruled that the amendment would not stand. They claim that the amendment itself was legal because it was voted on and approved. However, it would not be able to stand if those illegal signatures approving slot machines came from illegal means.
