Spuds Has SlotsSpuds convenience store was raided yesterday, as well an adjacent home, and three video slot machines – as well as $500 in cash - were seized. The search warrants listed two names that allegedly controlled the slots machines and made the payouts, they were Daniel J. McMahon and Daniel A. Knapp.McMahon was listed as the manager, and state records list him as the secretary and director of Spud’s Inc., the owners of the store. Knapp, is a former City Councilor, who served on the Board of Alderman from 1962 to 1965. He was in trouble previously; in 1989 he pled guilty to setting up an illegal lottery and was fined $1,250.Supposedly customers of the convenience store were given keys to enter the house to play the slot machines. They were set up to record money that was bet and payouts that were due to gambling patrons. All three video slot machines were originally in the convenience store, but had been moved to the residence next door. Police believed this was done due to the latest rounds of raids in the area. They have raided several clubs and bars and have so far seized 11 slot machines.Back to August Index - Slot Machines Fan |
