Macau’s Numbers Are UpIn a move not really expected by anyone, Macau’s gaming revenues went up 50% this year in the second quarter. The gap between Macau and Las Vegas is getting closer and closer. Many assumed that their numbers would increase, but no one expected to see a jump that drastic over last year. Casino revenues reached $2.51 billion which has now made it officially the world’s largest gaming center. VIP baccarat was responsible for a large portion of that increase, with their revenues up 58% from the year before. The area only has a population of 510,000 but it has a large influx of people coming from other areas to play what is known as the “next Las Vegas.” Their revenues are higher than Vegas’ already. Last year they brought in $7.2 billion, and Vegas brought in $6.6 billion on their Strip. But with the new numbers, it looks as though Macau might be looking to overtake the amount that all of the slot machine halls and casinos in Las Vegas take in. Experts are saying that they will be bringing in more than all of the slot machines in Nevada’s Clark County within two years. The bigger Macau gets the more casinos want to come in – so now they are seeing big names like Wynn Macau, the Sands, and Galaxy StarWorld. These names then spur more name brand companies to come in as well, as they are afraid of missing the boat in revenue. They predict that Macau’s gambling revenues will be more than $13.4 billion within the next three years.
