Law Changes for Slot Machines

There is a new law in effect for pachinko slot machines, they are now going to have to pay the same amount to run as other types of slot machines do. There used to be two different amounts depending on the type of pachinko slot machine – based on how old the machine was.

The new regulations make it so that no matter what kind of slot machine it is, the owners and operators will have to pay licensing fees to operate them. Lt. Governor Timothy Vilagomez, acting as governor, signed House Bill 15-286 into law early last week, making it necessary for the license fees to be paid.

The Legistlature had passed the new legislation only days before Vilagomez signed off on it, and it is known as Public Law 15-78. A $150 annual fee will now have to be paid to own and operate amusement games such as pool tables and video games, but slot machines and pachinko machines will have to pay $6,000. If they offer a prize, they must pay the higher amount.

Juke boxes will be $150 per machine, and rides for children that take payment will be $25 per machine.

Only those slot machines that are located in the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino are exempted from the new law, and any future casinos that might be built there or on Saipan, Tinian, or Rota will be exempted from the slot machine licensing fees as well.
