Addicts Don’t Have TimeIf you play long enough, the idea is that eventually you will win money at the slot machines. However, this is not really something you can bank on. Some people go their whole lives without ever having any kind of win never mind a big win. But with addicts, they need to win. You can play the slot machines knowing that you might win or might not – but do it just for fun; addicts can’t. They play to win, which in itself is a losing battle. Take Susanne Orton. She had a good life and she threw it all away on slot machines because Orton is an addict. Orton just went to jail for her addiction, something that happens to many slot machine addicts when they turn to stealing to support their habit. Orton took £100,000 of her and her solicitor husband's savings and gambled it away. Then she stole from his practice another £79,655 to feed her addiction, and then was finally caught. She went on trial and they sent her to prison for ten months. Orton fell prey to what many addicts do, she saw the lights, saw the possibility, and thought she could be a millionaire simply by putting a coin in a slot.
