Road Improvements Will Get FundedThe Pauma Indian Band in North Country has agreed to pay the necessary road improvements in North County. There had been some disagreement as to whether or not they would be paying for the road improvements, but they have finally reached a tentative agreement. The tribe will be paying $38 million in road improvements, as well as taking care to reduce effects of their new luxury slot machine resort that they are building. They are creating a $300 million slot machine project and the tribe will pay for the improvements that are needed along State Route 76 and Pauma Reservation Road. They will also pay $400,000 for sheriff’s protection, $40,000 for the cost of prosecution of slot machine and casino related crimes, and another $200,000 for slot machine and gambling addiction treatment. They will be creating their own fire department, which they will fund as well. They have been negotiating with county officials for months, and many are happy with the agreement that they have reached. They are sure that they will be able to make it a permanent one, and that everyone will sign off on it. It is scheduled to go before county supervisors on August 6th.
