Ohio
Has New Lottery Director
Well it
didn’t take long to fill the shoes left behind by Michael A.
Dolan did it? The previous director of the
Ohio
lottery announced his resignation and before the ink on the
paper was dry Governor Ted Strickland had already come up with a
plan to replace him. One has to wonder if they had someone
already and asked Dolan to resign?
Either
way, the state has hired Kathleen Burke, a lawyer from
Cleveland, to take over the position of
Lottery Director. Burke says that she is not a big player in the
lottery and that she only occasionally buys tickets – so one
might wonder why she would want the job. But Strickland says
that she is very organized and has great management skills –
which make her a perfect fit for the position.
He says
that it is these skills that give her the ability to run the
17,500 slot machines that are coming into the state under her
watch. The slot machines will be placed throughout the state and
Strickland believes that she is the right fit for the job. Burke
will oversee the bringing in of the slot machines as well as the
largest expansion that the lottery has ever seen in terms of
gambling.
Burke
says that she asked Dolan to stay on as a consultant while the
slot machines are brought in and he agreed to do so. Burke will
also get a raise over what Dolan was making. He made $115,991 a
year, while Burke will be making $129,500. Strickland, who just
recently got on board with the idea of slot machines says that
he is excited about the change and thinks that working together
they will be able to do a lot of good for the state.
