Race Course Lays Off Workers

It would appear that even if slot machines come through now that there are some that will not benefit from them. The state of Massachusetts has been going around and around in reference to slot machines and whether or not they will end up at race tracks across the state. There are those that want them and of course, there are those that do not – but either way, even if they bring them in now, the first of the lay offs have begun.

There are those that want the slot machines at the race tracks because they want to play them and this will make it more convenient, but for the tracks there is more at stake. The slot machines are the only thing that will keep many of them from having to close down, and they say that although they have made this abundantly clear with the state that they do not seem to be listening to them.

Perhaps the steps that Plainridge Race Course in Plainville recently took will wake them up. The track was just forced to lay off almost 160 employees which is about 10% of their entire work force. They said that they cannot keep them on board without the slot machines. They said that some of these employees were people who had been hired to handle the slot machines that they thought were coming in, and some were people that they had to lay off anyway due to a poor recession.
