Slot Machine Casino Sees First Arrest

The Gulfstream Park slot machine casino has seen the first arrest and it is for solicitation. Opponents of the slot machines say this is a perfect example of the social ills that the gambling is bringing into the state of Florida. However, proponents of the slot machines say that there have been no other problems up until now, and the fact that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement acted on it so quickly is just a testament to how safe it will be.

Sheena Marie Kline, 21, of Hallandale Beach was arrested for allegedly trying to solicit an undercover FDLE agent for the sum of $250. In her purse she carried prescription drugs for her knee. She is being charged a misdemeanor for offering to secure a lewd act and a felony for the painkillers. She was arrested at the bar area in the slot machine room.

With opponents of the slot machines hollering that this is just the start of the crime wave that is sure to follow legalized gambling – many have been quick to step up and say that they are not concerned. The FDLE said that they are monitoring the slot machine floor and Michael Mann, the assistant special agent in charge said, "The [first] arrest was going to happen sooner or later. We don't consider it a problem."

Those that pushed to get the slot machines legalized said that how quickly the FDLE picked up on this is just proof of how closely the slot machine casinos will be monitored. They say that the FDLE is going to pick up on any problems before they become major issues for all of the slot machine casinos.
