Bosley Against Slot Machines Governor-elect Deval Patrick has chosen state Rep. Daniel E. Bosley as his Chief Economic Development Advisor – which does not sit well with many slot machine proponents. Patrick had promised after the election to keep an open mind when it came to legalizing slot machines, and yet by choosing Bosley it seems that is not what he intends to do. Bosley has long been an opponent of slot machines, and he has already stated that he will make his voice heard to Patrick on the issue. In Massachusetts many have wanted the slot machines to be legalized for some time now. A bill to legalize the slot machines made it through the Senate last year, but the House vetoed it based on the opposition of Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi. If Patrick decides to throw his weight behind legalizing the slot machines, they might stand a chance in the legislature this year, but if he is not behind it, it shall not pass. Patrick has always been upfront about having reservations about slot machines in the state, saying that he was concerned about gambling addicts and the negative effect it could have on the state’s lottery system. However, he has also said that he used to play the slot machines with his mother at Foxwoods. He said he has spent more time around those who oppose the slot machines than those who are for legalizing the slots, so he will do more research to see what the fair and right thing to do is.
