Cory Says Adkins Just Wants Slot Machines Jack Cory is a lobbyist for the Florida Greyhound Association, and he says that Dan Adkins just wants slot machines and casinos, but does not want the dogs. Adkins was a driving force behind legalizing slot machines at the racetracks in Broward County, and it is mainly due to him that it happened. Cory says that the dogs were a pawn in the slot machine game, and that Adkins is going to try and close out the dogs. The two groups differed as to how much of the slot machine revenue should be going to the race purses, with the Greyhound Association obviously wanting more than Adkins was willing to give. ''Danny has gone back on his word and not taken care of Greyhound breeders,'' Cory said. With slot machine revenue expected to overtake the revenue from dog racing by a substantial amount, the dog breeders think that there will be no need for the tracks. However, the law states that the tracks must keep running in order for the pari-mutuels to keep their slot machine licenses. Cory still thinks, however, that Adkins wants to “kill the live racing at the track” and bring in a casino. Adkins disagrees, stating that the slot machines will bring in people to play the tracks that wouldn’t have otherwise come to the business. He references his West Virginia track that got slot machines more than 10 years ago and how it has helped them.
