Iowa Counties Seeking Slot MachinesThree Iowa counties are seeking licenses to bring in slot machine casinos. However, with the state of Iowa having just issued four slot machine licenses last year, many think that they don’t stand a chance at getting approved. The counties – Ottumwa, Fort Dodge and Tama – all think that they are due for slot machine casinos.However, the Gaming Board wants to wait to see how the other slot machine casinos are performing before they add any more to the mix. Three of the four slot machine casinos have opened in Worth County, Emmetsburg and Riverside. The fourth slot machine casino, which will be a $175 million gambling complex in Waterloo, will not be open until next spring. The Isle of Capri Casinos will be running the slot machine casino and they think they will be ready to go within the next few months.With those four, Iowa has 19 slot machine casinos, including 3 racetrack slot machine casinos and 13 riverboats. They also have 3 Indian casinos on tribal lands, including one near Tama. Many think that if the state is approving more slot machine licenses, Tama should be the last to get it as they already have one in their general vicinity – and the governor-elect coming in has already said that he thinks Ottumwa and Fort Dodge should be next in line to receive slot machine licenses.Back to December Index - Slot Machines Fan |
