It’s All About
the Slot Machine Design After years of problems, WMS Gaming is releasing slot machines that cannot be tampered with, while still being cutting edge. They have spent the last few years working on tamper resistant software, and coming up with some of the most innovative slot machines on the market. Their technology center is located in Chicago, where Larry Pacey, SVP for Product Development, is working on keeping up the pace they have set. They have more than 300 workers at this facility, all working towards designing the latest in slot machines. They have composers working on “the ultimate celebratory sound” for when someone hits a slot machine jackpot. They have engineers working on a “sensory immersion” slot machine that gives the feel of the best arcade game you have ever played. The first of its kind, this slot machine is similar to “Top Gun” where the player is the pilot, and sits in a “cockpit” surrounded by jet rumbles, engine bursts, etc. "All slot players are looking for escapism," Pacey said, and they definitely get that in this slot machine. They are currently working on a slot machine based on the Wizard of Oz, where Pacey says they will get chased by flying monkeys and actually go to the Wizard of Oz. No one can predict if they will be popular or not, but with these innovations, WMS is setting the slot machine bar higher than usual.
