Are Slot Machines Really Guaranteed? With International Gaming Technology (IGT) coming out with “guaranteed play” slot machines, many have doubts as to what the players will think. Guaranteed play slot machines basically guarantee the players that they cannot lose any more than they have paid in. They buy a certain number of spins on the slot machine and if it ends with a negative balance at the end, the players don’t owe anything else and can just walk away. Some people think however, that if it has the possibility of being in the negative with the player not owing any more, then the slot machine will be rigged to not pay out as well. The electronic game payback rates would stay at regular levels (currently averaging 91% in many places), for if they didn’t the players would not play the slot machines. They do not have to, many minimum requirements are much lower for the slot machine payout, but with the competitiveness of the market, they would feel a need to or no one would play. IGT has assured those players that their slot machines will offer the same odds and payback tables as the other slot machines in the casino. In fact, they claim that the first generation poker version could switch back and forth from traditional to guaranteed play slot machines. The casinos know that if they don’t offer something more cutting edge for their players, they will just play the slot machines somewhere else.
