Mardi Gras Slot Machines Not Running Yet

The Mardi Gras Racetrack and Gaming Center was unable to pass their first try at the facility testing required by the slot machine casino. After a full day of testing by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), the two organizations deemed the slot machine casino not ready to open. This is nothing new as the Gulfstream Casino was not able to open their slot machines to the public on the first try either – but did pass the second.

The slot machine casino will have another chance, and Meg Shannon, spokesperson for the DBPR said that the complex testing process is new to all of the pari-mutuels so it is expected that they might not pass. This is the first time they are able to have Class III slot machines running in their establishments, and the DBPR and the FDLE are not taking any chances that their employees or security do not understand everything they are doing.

The slot machine casino will be able to apply for another inspection after Saturday, and once they pass the testing they can open to the public. The Mardi Gras failed ten tests conducted by the inspectors including counterfeit currency detection, preventing handbag theft, and having a valid compulsive gambling prevention program in place for those that are having a problem with the slot machines. Once approved, the Mardi Gras Casino will have 1,147 slot machines, which is more than twice the number of slot machines offered at Gulfstream.
