McNaughton Played the Slot Machines

State Rep. Mark McNaughton has gotten himself in a bit of trouble over the slot machines. He is currently going through a nasty divorce and his slot machine and gambling winnings have become public knowledge. The problem isn’t that he played the slot machines; it is that he omitted them off of his ethics forms. McNaughton is currently up for a position with the Pennsylvania Gaming Board, and not reporting his slot machine winnings could affect the position.

For someone who has been so vehemently against slot machines in PA, it seems strange that he would travel to Atlantic City to play them. Not only that but he did it in the company of Boyd Gaming who – up until September – was a candidate for one of the slot machine licenses in PA.

McNaughton won $10,902 from slot machines and gambling in 2003. In 2005, he reported $4,545 in slot machine and gambling profits. He has always been very opposed to the expansion of gambling in the state, even going so far as to vote against the 2004 law that legalized slot machines.

He now says that the only reason he opposed slot machines in the state of PA was because his constituents did not want them. He says that he is still opposed to slot machines everywhere as he does not think it is safe for people to have the ability to gamble everywhere. He thinks that slot machines and gambling need to be in particular destinations that people have to travel to in order to gamble.
