Mohegan Sun Sees Increase in Slot MachinesThe Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority reported a fourth quarter net income from their slot machines and gambling. They currently own one of the world’s largest slot machine and gaming casinos, and they showed a profit of $38.9 million – a major increase from the $77.4 million loss they reported a year ago. The tribe said that slot machine and gaming revenue was up 7% from a year ago. A big help to the tribe was the acquisition of the Pocono Downs racetrack in Pennsylvania and the slot machines that are going to come with it. The Mohegan Sun increased its market share for the slot machines to 53% - up from last year’s 50.9%. Foxwoods owns and operates the other slot machine casino in Connecticut. Revenue from table games rose 12% to $96 million, making them extremely profitable for the slot machine casino. ''Results for the fourth quarter were excellent,'' said Jeffrey Hartmann, COO. ''We continued to experience strong growth in our [slot machine] gaming revenues and are extremely pleased with the results of our table games play.'' Slot machine revenue overall increased for the state, up 2.3% from last year. The Mohegan Sun has also announced a $740 million expansion that will include a return to poker and a House of Blues music hall.
