PA Dragging Slot Machine Funding FeetThe state of Pennsylvania seems to be dragging their feet when it comes to getting compulsive slot machine gamblers the help they need. They have no qualms about making sure that the slot machine casinos do what they are supposed to do, what is good for the goose is obviously not good for the gander. They have been riding the slot machine casinos making sure that they have their entire end in place, but what good does it do if they are the only ones worrying about it? The state is supposed to be setting up programs for those with a slot machine gambling problem, but has not yet met its legal obligation by doing so. Many think that the first slot machines should never have been allowed to start running until those programs were in place, but obviously the state disagrees. The state says the slot machine revenues are coming in slowly and that taxpayers need to be patient. However, if that is the case, why couldn’t the state take some of the slot machine revenue that was earmarked for something else and apply it toward the help that gambling addicts will need, instead of leaving them high and dry. Assistance for those with a slot machine and gambling problem needed to be the first thing the state did, instead of worrying about the tax break of residents.
