Slot Machines are Racing InWhen all is said and done, the six racetracks in Pennsylvania will have spent more than $1.75 billion on bringing in slot machines to their tracks. This figure includes the $50 million they had to pay the state in the first place to get the slot machine license. Some will open a temporary slot machine casino to initially bring in the revenue, and then open a larger more permanent casino later on. Others will wait to bring in the slot machines until they have a permanent casino in place. The Meadows is planning on opening its slot machine parlor by May 1 in a temporary structure. They are then planning on opening a permanent grandstand with a slot machine gambling hall. There will also be new names and themes to go with many of the slot machine casinos – such as Hollywood Casino at Penn National – which keep them related to the other casinos that they operate. Many of the new slot machine casinos are going to be run by high powered executives from Las Vegas and Atlantic City – as they have the experience to do so. There is some concern that the majority of people who will be working in the slot machine casinos will actually never have set foot in a casino before. It will make for an interesting experience for the big wigs they are bringing in to run the slot machine casinos, as they have probably never overseen casinos that have employees who have never even touched a slot machine before.
