Would Adding Table Games to Slot Machines be Too Much?

Many think that the time is too soon to speak of adding table gambling to the slot machines that have just opened. Others think that in order for the state to compete with the other states near them that also have slot machines that they have to offer more than just that.

The Senate’s new leader, Dominic Pileggi, says that he thinks the state needs more time to evaluate how slot machines are impacting them before they start expanding gambling. "I think it's a reasonable position to see how the introduction of expanded slots across Pennsylvania works in practice, what sort of revenues it generates, what sort of problems it creates," said Pileggi.

It is expected that any attempt to add the table games to the slot machine parlors would be vetoed should it reach the desk of Governor Rendell. He has said that he thinks the slot machines are more than enough, and that adding table games would not be a good idea. There is also a problem with getting everyone that wants to expand gambling past slot machines to agree how they want to expand.

Some think that adding table games is a good idea, others think it needs to be keno, and still others think that they should just be expanding the number of slot machines in the state. They would like to see slot machines offered at bars and restaurants. So until they can all agree on how they want to expand the slot machine gambling that they have already added, it will be difficult to get anything passed. They would also be the first state to legalize slot machines and then add table games later. Those that currently allow the table games with the slot machines did the approval process at the same time.
