Slot Machines in PA Not an Easy Task

It seemed all wine and roses for Pennsylvanians when they first announced that they had decided to allow slot machines in their state. However, that was probably the last time they celebrated. Between lawsuits and property issues, bringing slot machines into the state turned out to be much harder than anyone could have anticipated.

They brought in a nice chunk of change for the state, for even without all of them operating, they brought in around $1.5 billion for the state. However, with that money came a whole lot of headaches as well. Philadelphia is probably the biggest hotbed when it comes to slot machines in that residents are fighting tooth and nail to keep them out of where they are. They don’t want to see the casinos put up shop in their neighborhoods, and are trying to get the state to move them to the outskirts of town.

They say that they don’t want the traffic or the crime that will come with the slot machines, and they would thank the government to remember that there are people living near their proposed sites. However, the government either isn’t listening or just doesn’t care as they keep pushing forward for the same spots to bring their slot machines.

Supporters say that the amount of money being brought in from the casinos should be enough to quiet the opposition, as they have already brought in more money than originally expected. However, residents of Philly say that you can’t put a price tag on quality of life.

Not only that, but one of their slot machine license recipients, Louis DeNaples may have lied under oath in order to get the license. There is now a grand jury investigation underway to see what wrongdoing there may have been. No matter what happens from here, 2008 is bound to be just as exciting for slot machines in PA.
