Pittsburgh Fighting Illegal Slot Machines

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is handing out money to counties across the state in an effort to crack down on illegal slot machines. They are helping fund efforts by police and law enforcement personnel across the state to combat illegal slot machines and thus increase their own bottom line.

With illegal slot machines, the money goes to the owner of the machine. However, the state’s legal slot machines all have to pay a portion of their revenue to the state, thus making them a tidy sum. They need the illegal slot machines to cease and desist so that they can increase the amount of revenue that they are receiving from them.

They went around on Thursday to Pittsburgh and Allegheny County to drop off checks for them, and that money is earmarked for the hunt for illegal slot machines. They plan on using their regular police force to enforce the law, but the money will pay for the overtime that they will have to put in for this to work.

All in all, the county received $160,568 for county police, $181,129 for city police and $250,000 for the Allegheny County District Attorney's office. Their goal is to rid themselves of all of the illegal slot machines and video poker machines that are currently operating. They will remove all machines that do not comply with the payout schedule that they have been approved for.
