When deciding whether or not to bring slot machines into Maryland, Ocean City was one of the biggest proponents for keeping them out. Now that slot machines have been legalized, it would seem that they have changed their tune.

The city of Ocean City, Maryland, fought long and hard for years to keep slot machines out as they said that it would destroy the very fabric of their community. Community leaders said that they did not want the slot machines and the crime and addiction that would ultimately come from them. They waged huge campaigns against those that wanted slot machines, and prayed that they would win.

However, on November 4^th, the residents of the state of Maryland voted to legalize slot machines in the state again. The majority of people said that they wanted to see slot machines come in, and many of those voting for them came from Ocean City. Now it would seem that the Ocean City Town Council is taking a “if you can’t beat them, join them” approach.

The town council is being asked to support legislation that would allow fraternal organizations to operate slot machines. The Ocean City Elks Lodge group would like to be allowed to have slot machines as they say that they would be able to make a lot of money for charity from them. They have already spoken to state lawmakers about it and they are hoping for support from the town council as well. Many say that it is practically a done deal locally, as the town council seems to be very supportive of the idea of legalizing slot machines for them.
