With the advent of tribal casinos, many saw this as a good thing – as it always seemed as if there weren’t enough slot machines wherever you went. However, as the tribes grew, and the number of casinos grew, you started seeing empty slot machines. Then the economy problems hit and things really started going downhill.

The tribes noticed that they were being affected by the number of people that were no longer gambling, and started turning on each other. Smaller tribes that now were thinking on adding slot machines were pounced upon by the larger tribes who already had them, working with lawmakers to keep slot machines out.

In California, the larger tribes instilled a sense of fear in the residents of the state, making them think that the number of slot machines that they already had were more than enough – and that to add any more would be forcing people into an addiction of the machines. They said that to add more slot machines would be dangerous to the state, and should be avoided at all costs.

Then, when they got residents to agree that more slot machines would be a bad idea – they went to the lawmakers that were sympathetic to them and got them to give them more. This is happening all over the country. Existing casinos don’t want to see more slot machines coming in as they know that it will cut into their profits, and their profits are already suffering.

As more players choose to play the online slot machines instead, the land based casinos are really feeling the pinch. Las Vegas had one of their worst months ever last month – and next month is estimated to be even worse.
